Must Do

Original things to do in the north of Fuerteventura:

  1. Sunsets: The beaches in the northwest of the island offer truly magnificent sunsets. To do this, you should go to the beaches located between El Cotillo and Cofete because on these beaches the orientation is ideal since the sun sets over the sea. In the other parts of the island, the sunsets are also very beautiful, however, the sun hides between the mountains so that it is not so spectacular, although it is still a very beautiful image.

  2. Exploring the Dunes of Corralejo: The Natural Park of the Dunes of Corralejo is an impressive place with extensive white sand dunes. You can walk, hike or even sandboard on these dunes. It is a unique landscape that will make you feel like you are in a desert.

  3. Visit the Lobos Natural Park: Lobos Island, located off the coast of Corralejo, is a protected natural paradise. You can take a ferry from Corralejo and explore this small island on foot. Enjoy its virgin beaches, go hiking on its natural trails and admire the diversity of flora and fauna.

  4. Practice surfing or kitesurfing: Fuerteventura is known as the "island of the wind" and is a very popular destination for lovers of water sports. In the north, especially in Corralejo, you will find ideal conditions for surfing or kitesurfing. There are schools and equipment rental centers where you can learn or improve your skills.

  5. Visit the local markets: In towns like Corralejo and El Cotillo, you will find local markets where you can enjoy an authentic shopping experience. Browse the stalls selling fresh produce, local handicrafts, clothing, and other typical products of the area. It's a great way to immerse yourself in the local culture and discover unique products. Another market that is very interesting is that of Lajares with its crafts.

  6. Take a boat trip: There are different options for boat trips available in the north of Fuerteventura. You can take a catamaran excursion to explore the coasts and enjoy activities such as snorkeling, whale watching or simply relax and enjoy the seascape.

  7. Discover the cliffs of El Cotillo: El Cotillo, in the northwest of the island, is known for its impressive cliffs and hidden coves. You can take a walk along the cliffs and enjoy the panoramic views of the Atlantic Ocean. In addition, there are white sand beaches and crystal clear waters where you can relax and swim.

  8. Visit the Casa de los Coroneles: In La Oliva, near Corralejo, is the Casa de los Coroneles, an old historic building with traditional Canarian architecture. You can visit this place and learn about the history of the island and the importance of colonels in the past.

  9. Tindaya Mountain: It is a mystical mountain where the aborigines of the island carved hundreds of feet of stones chosen for their location and size. All the rituals of the time were celebrated there. From there you can see the highest points of the mountains of Gran Canaria and Tenerife. It is necessary to hire an official guide since otherwise you risk receiving a fine.

  10. Bike tour: It is increasingly popular to do the northern path of the island by bike. You will visit several surfing beaches, the town of Majanicho circulating on an unpaved road with little traffic. The highway connects Corralejo with Majanicho and this with El Cotillo.
