SHOPPING IN CORRALEJO

Corralejo offers many shops for your leisure time and rest as in any other tourist town. In addition to the classic typical souvenir shops there are a large number of specialized shops, kite and surf schools where they also sell all the surf fashion brands, there is also a wide range of bicycle shops as well as perfume shops, jewelry stores, and above all two Good shopping centers with the most famous international brands, among others STRADIVARIUS, DESIGUAL, BERSHKA, TOMMY, BENNETHON, HURLEY, QUICKSILVER, BILLABONG among others.

Most of the leisure offer is found on the main avenue of Corralejo, here are the clothing and shoe stores and many perfume shops since VAT is not charged in the Canary Islands and this is an opportunity for tourists.

Another option for shopping and walking are the two shopping centers in Corralejo, El Campanario, which is located near the Civil Guard barracks, and Las Palmeras, which is on the main avenue.

El Campanario is a beautiful shopping center with the appearance of a Canarian town set with its houses and streets, there are all kinds of offers and events that make it a nerve center. In addition to shops there are many bars, ice cream parlors and restaurants. They offer free concerts and events for each and every one of the dates indicated on the calendar. This shopping center also has a supermarket from the DINO chain open every day of the year and free parking in the basement.

The Las Palmeras shopping center is located in the heart of Corrlaejo on the busy Avenida de Nuestra Señora del Carmen. There are world-renowned brand stores as well as bars and restaurants. It has a supermarket from the Spar chain and free parking in the basement.

Finally, on Saturdays an open-air flea market is set up where you can find an infinite number second-hand products.

FUERTEVENTURA PRODUCTS

Crafts, genuine products from the island or everything imaginable related to water sports are some of the proposals to buy in Fuerteventura. We analyze what to buy and the shopping routes of the Majorera island from north to south.

Buy products with a Fuerteventura denomination of origin -or that should have it-

ALOE VERA

The also called lily of the desert takes the cake of shopping on this island. This plant, whose properties include hydration, soothing power, its healing capacity or its analgesic, antiseptic or anti-inflammatory benefits, is the object of desire of any visitor. Throughout the island there are aloe vera plantations and many local companies manufacture and market all kinds of products with it. Gel is the most famous, especially among those tourists who have overdosed exposing themselves to the sun, but there are all kinds of creams, shampoos, soaps, lip balms...

You will find great offer. There are manufacturing and/or sales points designed for tourists throughout the island and strategically located in transit areas: at the access to the Great Beaches of Corralejo, on the road to La Oliva or Betancuria, on the way to Morrojable from Corralejo,… You will also see proposals in supermarkets, but keep in mind that if a cream costs 4 euros, it is possible that aloe vera only bears the name. And, of course, you will find limited and ecological editions in the artisan markets.

Look for 99% oloe vera products and discard all gels that are green. The highest quality ones are made with the gelatin inside the leaf, which is transparent. In most of the green gels, it is not even due to the fact that they use the whole leaf, but rather due to the dyes. There are many local brands and the prices are similar. The 200 ml bottle of gel costs between 15 and 18 euros. So if when you travel to Fuerteventura you carry your suitcase very full, you can forget about the aftersun or the moisturizing body cream and resort to the very fresh aloe vera gel.

If you choose to buy it at the airport on the way home, keep in mind that the prices go up considerably. Of course, the proposals are more sophisticated, with exotic fruits, aromatic herbs and, on occasions, with gold dust. And if you regret not having done it when you return home, remember that you always have the online option. This is the local brand that I use. Fresh Aloe Vera. You must bear in mind that the prices are higher if you make an online purchase, not only because of the shipping costs, but also because VAT is applied to you, a tax that does not exist in the Canary Islands and is replaced by the IGIC, and which represents a 7 % against 21% VAT.

MAJORERO CHESSE

For lovers of good food, Majorero cheese is another purchase option. If you're not going to do it, you should at least try it. This artisan cheese, typical of the island, is made with goat's milk from Fuerteventura. Did you know that the goat is the symbol of this island? Connoisseurs say that the Majorera goat is one of the most productive in the world and that its milk, dense, aromatic and fat, is the key to the delicacy of this product. The best places to buy Majorero cheese are, in the north of the island, the town of Tindaya and in the south, La Pared, but you have plenty of offers throughout the island.

SURF STYLE AND WATER SPORTS ARTICLES

Surfing, windsurfing and kitesurfing are the water sports with which the island of Fuerteventura is identified. In fact, some of the world competitions for these sports take place here. So it is not strange that you come across stores with a lot of proposals to practice it. Corralejo is full of shops with clothes and accessories from O'Neill, Billabong, Quiksilver, Rip Curl, Elment, Roxi, Reef, Volcon, Hurley,...

You can also discover some native brands. This is the case of No Work Team, the shop of two crazy Italian surfers who left everything to enjoy their passion. This store, located on the seafront in Corralejo, already has a presence at the airports of Fuerteventura, Gran Canaria and Tenerife.

In addition, international stores have adapted their offer to the idiosyncrasy of the area. So in some establishments like Inside, for example, located in Corralejo, you can find a great range of swimwear in summer. On my last two trips to Fuerteventura in summer, coinciding with the sales period, I have bought bikinis for 2 and 3 euros.

LOCAL DESIGN

In the small town of Lajares, between Corralejo and El Cotillo there is a shop, Gusty, dedicated to repairing surf sails and kitesurfing kites. Its promoters have created a complementary business, designing bags, backpacks, wallets, cushions,... with recycled fabrics from sails and kites. If you go through Lajares, go to Calle Coronel González del Hierro nº 29d. It is curious what they do, as well as an excellent example of sustainable development.

On the main street of Corralejo, at Avenida de Nuestra Señora del Carmen nº 46, is the Mojo store. In it you will find gift items and clothing designed by the illustrator Erika Castilla. You can look good from 2.5 euros, which is what a bookmark costs. I loved Erika's proposals to buy a detail from Fuerteventura.
